Cosplay is a really fun activity, it’s definitely one of my favorite hobbies! I’m still not very good at making my own cosplays look all that great, especially because I’ve just barely gotten into sewing (got my first sewing machine barely a few months ago). So patterns and whatnot are still a little alien to me, but I’m trying my best to learn as quickly as I can so I can climb up there and make top quality cosplays.
My favorite type of cosplay is one that sticks out and is unique in some way. (Of course you’ll almost never be individually unique, but even if I’m a common character I try to go beyond the common limit) For example, as simple as Yoko’s design is, I wanted to make it as accurate as possible (or as accurate as I could afford, or find in time) and push even further to make the gun. My gun was extremely rushed for Anime Expo 2009, so it wasn’t as nice as it could have been, but I plan on remaking it for future conventions!
The conventions I generally attend, or plan to attend, are: Anime Los Angeles, FanimeCon, Anime Expo, Pacific Media Expo. If I get the funding I might eventually travel out further to other conventions like Sakura Con and maybe places like Anime North and such, but that’s a future dream.
