I am very proud of this cosplay. When I first saw it, I knew it’d be a huge challenge – and that it was, but I think I made it!
All the “props” (gourd, horns, and the geometric hanging shapes), were made out of craft foam, Styrofoam, expanding foam and cardboard, coated in tape, paper mache, and then plaster. They were then sanded down, painted, and sprayed with fixative to protect them.
This cosplay used around 40′ of plastic chain which I ordered from http://mrchain.com/.
All the straps and belts were made from scratch. I purchased all the buckles and metalwork required and put them all together. For the double belt I actually had to take apart the buckles and resolder them to be horizontal because they were originally vertical buckles (original versions are found on my wrist cuffs). The giant belt buckle over the double belt is craft foam, painted with acrylic paints (the paint effect is everything! Weathering is everything!)
The design on the shirt and skirt were painted on.
If I were to change anything about this cosplay, I would make the horns stick up just a little higher. XD

Work in Progress Photos
Here are some work-in-progress photos from when I was working on Suika. Hope they help!

I must say, this is awesome. I’m a huge Suika fan myself, and one of my buddies actually linked me to Ackson’s fanime video because she knew I’d freak when I saw it. Very well done!

Suika is awesome isn’t she~? :) Thank you so much!

I’m a huge Suika fan, and I’m trying to make a gourd just like the one Suika has. The twist is that I’ll be using a real gourd. The problem is that I don’t know japanese, so I can’t figure out the kanji (I think it’s a semi-cursive Hiragana) that are on the stickers, and I’m afraid I’ll mess up writting them and end up writting something weird…
Can you help me?

One of my WIP photos has a decently clear view of the Japanes~ :) You can check out that pic for reference for what it says!

Where on earth did you get your wig? I’ve been searching for a decent Suika wig for ages, and yours is perfect!

@Lauren, I ordered mine from C.C. Kids if I remember correctly. :) If you check around Taobao stores, I think they now have a few Suika targetted wigs.

@Vensy, Thank you! Do you remember what the wig was called?

@Lauren, if I recall correctly, it didn’t have a specific name. I was just browsing the Taobao site’s (the asian sites, not eBay) wigs by color and found one that looked like it would work.

Speaking of wigs, what do you think of Suika cosplayers who use dark orange or blond wigs?

@Jessi, I personally like blonde wigs the least. Dark orange wigs aren’t as bad though. I know there’s artwork of Suika out there where she’s blonde, but I feel like that light-orange ish color fits her the best. :)

How did you attach your horns to your wig?

@Jessi, the horns were hot glued to pieces of felt; these felt pieces were then sewn into the wig wefts. :) Although it’s not the best method to attach horns of this size, it works. You just have to be aware of your surroundings and hope people don’t run into your horns! (If they are hit too hard, there is a chance that the hot glue will begin to un-do)
